About Zoology Department

Complete department information can be viewed here: About Department

The Department of Zoology has inherited a genius tradition from its inception. In addition to the basic objectives of education, the Department of Zoology has been continuously working for the overall development of the students by implementing new initiatives to brighten the innate qualities.

From the day of its inception in 1964, the department of Zoology made a conspicuous headway in the arena of imparting education to the promising youth who may soar to the acne of success. First preceding head of the department Prof. D. S. Jajurley played a role of progenitor for the generation who succeeded him. He also played a key role in the form of prominent positions in the RTM Nagpur University. During his incumbency as head, the Department of Zoology thrived and witnessed the halcyon days that produced the personalities who hold eminent positions today. He was the recipient of the best teacher award of Govt. of Maharashtra in 1982. He also held the position of chairmanship of Board of Studies and Maharashtra State Board of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. He also occupied the position of Dean, faculty of Science, RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur.

In 1965, Agricultural Entomology was attached to the Department, which was, later on, separated only to join the Agricultural University established in the year 1968-69. Our colleagues, appointed in the department on 20th June 1965 were Prof. M. A. Quazi and Prof. J. D. Mahajan to assist H. O. D. in shouldering the responsibility of the department. Prof. Shelgaonkar, who was then working with department, became Principal of the Agriculture College of our parent institute when separated in 1996.
