About Political Science Department

The department of Political Science was established with the inception of Anand Niketan College on 20th June 1964. The college is run by Maharogi Sewa Samiti, Warora, renowned social body founded by the great social worker Shraddheya Baba Amte. Political Science is one of the optional subjects in the curriculum of Gondwana University. The department offers the course to the students of Bachelor of Arts, a three year degree course. The department has highly qualified teaching staff. The department has one full-time and one contributory

teaching staff. Dr. T. N. Sutey is the head of the department presently. He has been serving in the department for nineteen years. Prof. Nitin Awari is the staff member working on clock hour basis. Both the members of the department work enthusiastically in every activity of the department as well as college.
The department has cherished history of distinguished scholars leading the department. The milestone as head of the head of the department was laid by Dr. S. G. Deogaonkar. He devoted himself to the betterment of promising students. He has his share in extracurricular activities also that brought immense praise to the college and benefited the students in large number. After the retirement of Dr. Deogaonkar, Prof. T. N. Sutey was appointed as a Full-Time lecturer in January 1999. Activities

The department has invaluable components for so many years and added numerous feathers to its cap. In its untiring journey the teachers of the department have made remarkable contribution to Adult Education, NSS, Students’ Council. Alumni Association, Cultural Programmes, Vrikshadindi, Granthadindi, Socal Gathering and Community Extension Programme. Dr. Sutey, head, worked as NSS Programme officer. The department organizes guest lectures, workshops, seminars, group discussion sessions, debate, Political Science Quiz, and Educational Tour for the development and intellectual progress of the students.Prof. A. K. Yerne, working in the junior wing of the department, has been an active and ardent volunteer of NSS and has attended various camps. Every year the department organizes various programmes.

  • A project on Indian Constitution Preamble is organized for the students of BA part I students.
  • Every year department conducts student centric programmes on Right to Information (RTI) and Annex. A, B and C.
  • To inculcate research aptitude, a project on Gram-Sabha and its function is conducted.
  • A survey on Panchayat and Nagar Parishad Election 2016 was conducted by the students’ that enabled them to know the process of Election.

“Political Science Forum” a new venture was introduced in joint collaboration with the Departments of Economics, Sociology, Political Science and History. Its establishment dates back to three decades. It has been organizing seminars on social issues that touch burning problems and ills in the society. ‘Political Science Forum’ organizes lectures of invitee guests, personalities with special caliber. Symposiums of well-informed personalities and erudite is invariably held. Learned and renowned personalities in the field are invited to express their views on given topics. Lectures delivered by such erudite have proved vital to the students. Amenable and accountable collegiate students are made aware of social problems.

Achievements

Proud moment: Ku. Shalini Jengathe scored highest mark in the subject and secured 1st Merit and Gold Medal in Gondwana University Exam 2016.
