Botany
Botany department started functioning with the inception of Anand Niketan College, Anandwan from 20th June 1964 under the stalwart guidance of Shri L. B. Sainis. Throughout the tenure of Shri L. B. Sainis, as head of the Department from 1964 to 1990, the department received UGC grants as well as grant under COSIP. The department utilized these grants to maximum benefit and procured important equipments. Enrichment of facilities played a pivotal role in improving the educational standard of the department. Shri L. B. Sainis was appointed as
Principal of this college. Under his leadership college received highest reputation at the university level. After superannuation of Shri L. B. Sainis, Shri V. M. Kalpande took the charge as Head of the Department who emphasized upon updating the laboratory facilities and keeping in tune with the changing scenario.
He received an honour as a Member (Trustee) of Maharogi Sewa Samiti, Warora, the Managing Body of the college and worked as research consultant for biomass production research project sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi.In the year 1997, Shri S. D. Petkar joined the department. He actively participates in all academic and social activities. He became Head of the department in the year 2005. With the appointment of Dr. M. C. Kale in the year 2001, department has completed its full time faculty quota. Dr. M. C. Kale worked as Consulting Scientist with the Anand Niketan College of Agriculture, for the project involving tissue culture of Banana sponsored by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. He has successfully completed one minor and two major research projects sponsored by UGC, Rajiv Gandhi Science and Technology Center and BRNS, Bhabha Atomic Research Center Trombay, Mumbai. He is also member of several administrative committees of the Gondwana University. He has been appointed as acting principal in the year 2013 and selected for full time post in August, 2015.Dr. P. J. Wagh joined the department in the year 2014. He has published few research papers in the journals of National and International reputes. He is co-author of one text book, one monograph and eleven practical manuals.
The department is proud to have two well equipped laboratories, and a full-fledged supporting infrastructure in the form of Tissue Culture room, Botanical Garden, Medicinal Plant Garden, Forest Nursery, Vermicompost unit, Mushroom cultivation unit and a Herbarium. In addition to three year degree course in Botany, the department also accommodates Junior college level biology section along with two vocational courses viz., Horticulture and Crop Science. In the academic session 2015-16 Department started Post Graduate course in the subject with ‘Molecular Biology and Plant Biotechnology’, the most advanced field as specialization. Two batches have successfully completed their master degree with outstanding performance.
Aims and Objective
- Aim is to ensure up-to-date level of understanding in plant science.
- To provide training in scientific and transferable skills through lectures, courses, projects, written assignments, seminars and supervision.
- On completion of Degree course, students should be able to think critically, and to communicate ideas confidently.
